Travel To A Cotswolds Cottage in England

I wanted to share a little about my family’s recent travels to a darling 1640s Cotswolds cottage in the village of Biddestone, England. First, I love staying in Airbnbs when we travel because staying in a home instead of a hotel emerges you into the experience of being somewhere. Furthermore, this Cotswolds cottage was absolutely charming. I wanted to show you some of the details! Also, the entire area where my family is staying for a few days is quintessential English countryside. Here’s the outside of our cottage.

All told, we are in England for 10 days with the children, in part because of my husband’s work with professional sports teams. At the end of the trip, we will watch the Los Angeles Rams play on Sunday in London. Of course, we seized the opportunity to enjoy international travel with the kids again! It may be a very meager Christmas this year, but worth it! Our door opened on to a village square right across from this gorgeous home.

I joked on Instagram that I had purchased this house, and some people thought I actually had! Remove the dumpster and car and it’s straight out of a Jane Austen novel.

Inside, the space was filled with light and old wood beams everywhere. Just look at the stacked stone wall and carriage house out the window!

The door bell was this darling black bell which tinkled gracefully when you pulled a lever outside. This seems so civilized compared to the electronic doorbells everyone has at home.

The dining room let out onto this perfect garden space with a sweet little potting shed across a lawn of green.

Strangely, the sun shone practically the whole four days we were there, which felt very lucky.

The kitchen had a beautiful half door with an old drop-leaf farm table next to it. The table made the perfect spot for some morning coffee and knitting before the kids got up!

Probably, I could have stayed in this bed the whole day long, but there was so much to see! We’ve adored traveling with the kids internationally, and this trip has been no different.

Luckily, the boys had the week off of school. Unfortunately, we had to pull Allie from school. We think a week of travel through England beats a week in a 5th grade classroom in Denver, however. Above is a shot of the Bath Abbey from the Roman Baths. I love how the layers of history here are so rich and deep. The birds swooped up and down and flew all around as if to a silent symphony that only they could hear.

We went for a formal tea at the Pump Room in Bath, which the kids thought was most proper.

I hadn’t realized how darling all the towns in this area would be. My kids got tired of me oohing and ahhing at every step, so I won’t describe everything below. I will include some of little vignettes and scenes that caught my eye along the way, though. Finally, I’ll just let it be said that I have been perfectly charmed by England! So, go find your own Cotswolds Cottage and plan a trip!
