DIY Animal Accessory Jars: Keeping the Hair Resolution

Never mind about my resolutions, Allie, my daughter made a firm resolution this year to do her hair every morning before school. We gals with curly hair can’t just walk out of the house with out touching the rat’s nest a hard night of sleep causes. Now, when I was little, my mom brushed my hair (horrors with my curl) and sent me out the door super friz and all, much to my embarrassment.

I’ve learned so much about curly hair since then. I’ve painstakingly taught Allie how to spray her hair with water and apply just the right amount of conditioner and curl creme to make her hair fall in beautiful ringlets, without much hassle. But, alas, when she says she wants to do her hair every morning, she means DO it–braids, french braids, high ponys, low ponys, braided pig tails, high and low. Here is a sampling of some of her favorites.

But just because somewhere deep inside she WANTS to do her hair every morning, does not always mean she’ll jump right to it. Just like trying to avoid the chocolate I’ve stashed above the refrigerator. It’s hard. I’m sure most of you moms with daughters know, there is nothing like the terror initiated on both sides when it’s time to pull out that comb or brush out and actually go “DO” it.

I made these adorable little animal accessory jars to keep us both excited about the hair routine. There is nothing my daughter loves more than dogs (it was her first word, actually). So far, these little guys are working like a charm!

These jars are super, super easy to make, but oh so much fun. Here are the DIY instructions:

Materials:

Candy jar (Michael’s)

Mini plastic animals

Super glue

*Place a dollop of glue at the base of each foot of the animal.

*Place animal in the center of the jar.

*Let dry really well.

Voila!

We tried ’em with candy and then ate it all up just to make sure it worked with something else inside. Imagine all the fun things you could fill them up with. What adorable party favors or birthday gifts!

After the candy disappeared, we filled ’em back up with all the needed hair accessories.

How can you not want to do your hair with these little guys standing attention and waiting for you?
