Five Summer Craft Projects without a Lapful of Wool
I find creative inspiration in every season, so the warmer temperatures don’t keep me from creating. I just pick projects that reflect the season. When it gets warmer, I look for summer craft projects that are bright, fun and light! To help you keep making while beating the summertime heat, I’ve put together a list of five free summer projects that won’t leave you sitting with a lap full of wool.
Knit Twine Potholder Pattern with Leather
Using a textured yarn in a project makes it so much more interesting. And adding leather to the project makes it look like it came from a high-end home goods store. The Knit Twine Potholders with Leather are a super fast knit and you’ll find yourself using them all the time. They’re easy to care for too! The hemp is super durable and machine washable so once you’ve made yourself a set, you’ll enjoy them in your kitchen for years to come.
I love taking something ordinary and transforming it into something extraordinary. Crocheted Stones make a lovely keepsake or gift. This is such a simple and fun project! Even if you don’t have any crochet experience, my class on Creative Bug (get your first month free!) will show you how to make these beautiful Crocheted Stones using basic crochet stitches.
Floral Embroidery Patterns for Dishtowels
The perfect projects for summer are lightweight, colorful and easy to carry with me when I’m traveling. Embroidered dishtowels check off all three from that list. I get my inspiration from the flowers I see as I’m out enjoying the beautiful summer days. And I love watching the floral motifs come to life with the bright embroidery floss colors. Every stitch is a pleasure. As a result of my summer of stitching, by August I have a stack of hostess and birthday gifts ready for the next year.
With kids on summer break, it is always fun to have some projects we can do together. The Finger Knit Rope Trivets are a quick and easy project that you can do with your kids when you’re looking for an activity to beat the heat. All you need is some cotton rope, tape (to keep the rope from fraying), 30 minutes and your hands. You’re not going to be able to stop at one because these are so much fun! Make them in a variety of sizes and stash some away for last-minute gifts.
This linen coaster pattern is a lovely, simple knitting project that is perfect for a summer evening, either to knit or to use! Made with undyed Sparrow, 100% linen, from Quince & Co, these coasters are sure to be the perfect match with your glass of iced tea on the front porch. Make a set to give as hostess gifts while you’re at it. These have a simple picot lace-edged border which adds exquisite detail. The natural linen fiber adds that summer lightness and refinement and texture that I love.
I hope your summer is filled with beautiful things and inspiration. Which of these five summer craft projects are you planning on making first?
