Calliope Basket Kit (Makes 2)

Sale price$ 48.00 USD

133 in stock

Natural raffia coils beautifully, transitioning organically from one color to another, creating a lightweight unique basket.  Learn this wonderful basic basketweaving technique, while not worrying too much about counting or exactness. GREAT BEGINNER BASKET WEAVING KIT! Shape your basket however is desired from flat to a curved container. There are so many ways to play with using two colors in your basketry--this free-hand way is a great way to start!

Kit includes enough to make 2 baskets:

:: 4 - 50 g bundles of Madagascar Raffia, 2 in each of 2 Colors
:: Sharp Darning Needle
:: Clippers
:: Muslin Bag
:: Calliope Basket Pattern and Video

Basket measures 7.5" by 2" as shown but this can be variable depending on your desired size and shape. The last one I made was 6" by 1".

If you're looking for just the pattern, you can find it HERE.  Do you want to purchase the raffia on its own, look HERE.

Great starter project

I’ve been wanting to do basket weaving for a long time but some of the designs looked more complicated that I thought I could tackle as a beginner. The Calliope baskets were perfect for me. Since you’re not copying a pattern just learning to do a basic weave it was great. I finished my first basket and already started on my second. The only thing I would have done different was before starting the first basket I should have done a practice weave. I think it would have helped me get a feel for the raffia and the tightness of my weave but I’m ready to tackle something more complicated now.

Calliope baskets

This was part of my daughter’s Christmas gift. She said she liked everything, but hasn’t started the project yet.

Interesting

The video is hard to follow because you are showing it with black twine. Use a lighter color as I cannot follow in that dark color

I haven’t gotten very far yet but I love the video and love this basket. I will definitely be making more!
