Rocky Mountain Photo Locations for Weaving Within Reach

I’m so excited to provide some sneak peeks of my recent book shoot by sharing the Rocky Mountain photo locations I chose for it. I find it incredibly difficult to find locations in which I can shoot that match my style without totally breaking the bank. For my new book, Weaving Within Reach (due out August 2018), I wanted something modern, but also a little rustic. I wanted something white and bright, but also something that felt like and was a real place.

I considered many locations far and wide, but I kept coming back to the idea of celebrating coming home to Colorado. Most of you know that I loved my three years in Baltimore, but I had lived in Colorado for 12 years before that. My family loves being back. My hubby and I have been traveling around the state, and in doing so, found some really amazing Rocky Mountain photo locations. I won’t have sneak peeks of the projects in this post, you’ll have to wait on that, but I include photos of some color, textures and some of the props to give you a little sense of it.

Bread Bar, Silver Plume, CO

The first place is gorgeous Bread Bar in Silver Plume, CO. Only an hour from Denver, it’s a stunning spot, filled with light. It operates on the weekend only, and offers only drinks, but makes for a fabulous little field trip from the city or stop-off on the way back down from the mountains.

The inside is absolutely charming. The building used to be a bakery, and you’ll discover gorgeous old machinery from that time, but the rest of the place reveals a modern sensibility.

It’s got a great outdoor patio with views of the mountains. I highly recommend a visit if you get the chance.

Glamping Tents, Westcliffe, CO

I discovered another one of my Rocky Mountain photo locations in these gorgeous glamping tents in Westcliffe, CO. A breath taking Airbnb that is perfect for a two-couple get away.

The tents have wood burning stoves and beautiful linens. The owner is fabulously generous and responsive. Prepare for a lot of wind though – sheesh! I’m glad those tents are sturdy! I’m surprised we got any shots there at all. But the view and the night skies makes up for it! The cabin next door was the most charming view I’d seen in a while. I love that I got it at sunrise!

I loved seeing some of the pretty things I’ve collected, like this Paul Lowe Ceramic piece, used in the photos. We came up with a new hashtag #itssopretty because apparently I said it a lot while we were shooting!

Amigo Motor Lodge

Last but not least, we stayed at the Amgio Motor Lodge in Salida, CO. Salida is a fabulous mountain town, with a ton of beautiful shops, restaurants, hikes and views. I highly recommend a visit. Amigo Motor Lodge was fabulous to shoot at, we found the staff generous and kind. Literally a former motor lodge, the owners have done an amazing job modernizing everything so it all feels deluxe!

Filled with light, the lobby is fabulous, with lots of great places to hang (literally!). Plan for a couple cups of their delicious coffee in the morning. The glowy light made for tons of amazing photos too!

There was lots of modern feel with rustic touches, which was just the sensibility I was looking for.

You will not believe how they transformed the bedrooms!
